This article reconstructs the years of historical Peronism (1946-1955) and the subsequent dictatorship of the “Argentine Revolution” at the National University of Cuyo (Mendoza Province, Argentina). The central hypothesis argues that UNCuyo was a university aligned with the Peronist project, which made it a target of a harsh policy of de-Peronization after the 1955 coup. Using documentary sources and specialized literature, two key moments are reconstructed: the university’s growth and democratization, driven by Peronist influence during the rectorship of Ireneo Cruz (1946-1954), and the violent institutional intervention initiated by the 1955 dictatorship, characterized by mass dismissals, repression, and persecution at the university. The “Liberating Revolution” marked the shift to direct action by anti-Peronist Catholic right-wing groups linked to UNCuyo. From 1955 onwards, these right-wing teachers and intellectuals occupied key management positions at the university and were part of the civilian staff of subsequent dictatorships.
