Urban growth, poor management of cultivated soil and water resources are topics of interest to the social and scientific community. Therefore, the normalized difference indices (NDI) are used in remote sensing, which analyze and classify the types of land cover and use. The objective of this work was to apply these indices to spatially and temporarily zonify the urban expansion of the city of Pergamino, Argentina. The processing of multispectral satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 with a geographic information system, allowed to approach and evaluate the Normalization Differentiation Indices of buildings (NDBI) and the vegetation indices (NDVI) in different temporal scenes between 1990 and 2020. Then, the construction index (BU) was defined to zone the territory and establish urban expansion in time and space. Applying current legislation on land use different areas were delimited, which were processed together with the aforementioned indices, to define the progress of each use over the urban limit projected by law. The magnitude and form of the urban expansion of the city during the last 40 years was satisfactorily defined.
