Resumen
Palaeobotanical evidence is scarce in the Puna Biogeographic Province. Accordingly, we analysed siliceous microfossils (phytoliths and microalgae) from Late Miocene–Early Pliocene sedimentary sequences across two localities in the Argentine Puna. These proxy data were generated to reconstruct the vegetation and palaeoenvironmental conditions associated with fossil vertebrate deposits discovered in this high-altitude region.
Métodos
A total of 24 representative sediment samples were selected and collected from the different depositional facies at each locality, accounting for variations in grain size, sedimentary texture, and stratigraphic position. For phytolith extraction, sediment samples were processed following the laboratory protocols described by Zucol and Osterrieth (2002). *Zucol, A.F. and Osterrieth, M.L., 2002. Técnicas de preparación de muestras sedimentarias para la extracción de fitolitos. Ameghiniana, 39(3), pp. 379–382.

The file is available in .xlsx format and can be opened with Microsoft Excel (2010 onwards), LibreOffice Calc, or equivalent spreadsheet software. The first worksheet contains a table with count/presence data of siliceous microfossils, where rows correspond to the analysed samples (identified by stratigraphic position and locality) and columns represent the identified morphotypes and taxa.
