Facing the “world storm” that came with the consolidation of nazi-fascist regimes in the 1930´s, intellectuals and artists were interpellated by political affairs, following that concern some of them enrol in communist parties. A transnational cultural-weave emerged in South America in connection with communism, where writers like Raúl González Tuñón, from Argentine, and Jorge Amado, from Brazil, were important figures. They both formulated an aesthetical-political proposal named “romantic realism”, that intended to improve political effectiveness of the works of art. Unlike interpretations that asume soviet “socialist realism” was the only expresive option for communists, the article argues that this proposals were part of a cultural field, in wich tension and rivalry were usual, related to polictis, aesthetic and personal matters.
