A new structure for the implementation of FIR adaptive filters is presented in this work. It has originally been conceived to increase the velocity of convergence in applications of identification and equalization of digital communication channels. The proposed structure is based on the inclusion of a non linear preprocessing module, which modifies the weights adapting algorithm in a classical Wiener filter. The analytical and experimental results, obtained by using standard digital channel models, show the following important improvements: to equal iterations number, shorter processing time, higher velocity of convergence and smaller mean squared error, between the model identified by the system and the real channel parameters.
