This paper analyzes current debates on the use of nuclear energy as a source of electrical power from a didactic perspective focused on the nature of science. The objective of this paper is to propose how to approach this subject in secondary education as a socio-scientific issue that articulates epistemological, social, ethical, political, and economic dimensions of scientific activity, with the intention of promoting the capacity of secondary school students to analyze this types of controversies from a complex, situated, and democratic perspective. Through a narrative review of the literature, contrasting social perceptions regarding the peaceful use of nuclear energy, its risks, and its benefits are identified. Aspects of scientific knowledge are analyzed from the categories of the "family resemblances approach” proposed by Erduran and Dagher (2014), and it is argued that its teaching allows for the development of critical scientific literacy.
