The objectives of this study are: to study the relationship between the Big 5 personality traits (extraversion, emotional stability, openness to experience, consciousness and agreeableness), flow and academic engagement; and to test a model of structural equations that analyzes the effect of personality traits on academic flow and academic engagement, as well as the effect of the flow experience on academic engagement in undergraduate students. The sample included 171 Argentine undergraduate students, 70 men (40.94%) and 101 women (59.06%). To evaluate personality, Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) by Gosling, Rentfrow, and SwannJr. (2003) was used, the engagement was evaluated with the Utrecht Academic Engagement Scale (UWES, Schaufeli, Martínez, Marques Pinto, Salanova, y Bakker, 2002) and the Scale of Optimal Experience by Mesurado (2008, 2009) was used to measure academic flow. The results showed that three of the five personality dimentios: consciousness, openness to experience and extraversion, significantly predicted the flow but not academic engagement. On the other hand, the results show that emotional stability significantly predicts academic commitment.
