Santa Cruz makes mining activity one of its main sources of employment and income, which is why the decision of the company Triton (a subsidiary of Pan American Silver and owner of the Manantial Espejo deposit) to establish the cessation of activities in December 2022, acquires the character of a witness case, in order to analyze and understand the role played by the various actors involved such as the AOMA guild, the provincial and local government, the company, suppliers and workers. The economic and social impact of such a decision is a reflection of the consequences that the lack of foresight and anticipations necessary to mitigate it is causing in the town of Gobernador Gregores, administra- tive headquarters of the company and place of residence of workers and suppliers.
