This paper is carried out within the framework of the research project "Institutional violence and violation of rights in mental health hospitalization in the City of Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires suburbs. The voices of children and adolescents". The aim of this project is to describe and analyze the assessments and experiences of institutionalized children and adolescents regarding violence. Recreational and artistic workshops were carried out in two residential care facilities (CABA and suburban areas, respectively). The use of memes, emojis and "Q&A" games as a methodology for data collection made possible an alternative way of expressing themes such as violence, justice, protection, family bonds, discomfort, anger and desires. Participatory workshops constitute a key tool as a methodology of inquiry for making the devices for listening to children's perceptions more flexible, enabling a non-objectifying approach to their condition, respectful of their rights. Subjective violences emerged in the workshop at the intra (self), inter (relational) and trans (in common) levels; visibilizing that institutionalization impedes the elaboration of suffering and of the violences experienced, an aspect that is coherent with the suspension of playing seen in the workshops.
