Resumen

Vaccination is considered a promising complementary tool to control parasitic infections in domestic animals. However, in many cases, limited insight is available on the level and duration of vaccine efficacy that is required to protect vaccinated animals against parasitic diseases and against the associated reductions in animal welfare, health and productivity, or the level of protection that is needed to be used in a complementary approach with drug treatments. In this concept paper, issued by the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) guidelines subcommittee, potential efficacy claims and associated thresholds for parasite vaccines are discussed.
