The aim of this paper is to review the existing literature on educational institutions quality for children under three years. We include a summary of studies published in scientific journals during the past 12 years, which we organized into two groups of variables associated with this concept: structural variables (adult-child ratio, group size, care giver training and experience) and those regarding process (environment organization, interactions, care giver sensitivity, relationship with parents, etc.). We present the findings related to these quality indicators and the most frequently used instruments, while highlighting the areas that need more in-depth studies.
