This study examines the Buenos Aires periodical Los Pensadores as an editorial enterprise and a specific interventional device in the publishing field, from the perspective of the social history of print culture. It focuses on the “Bibliografía” and “Cartas Abiertas” sections, conceptualizing them as sites of editorial enunciation to analyze certain material aspects (graphic, visual, semiotic, and rhetorical) that allow for a broader understanding of certain cultural and literary dynamics that go beyond the history of authors or movements. This article seeks to account for the way in which mechanisms of exhibiting the journal's own editorial practice operate, which shape a specific editor’s ethos. Without adopting an asymmetrical position of authoritative tutelage, it posits a horizontal engagement and proximity with readers through a jovial and anti-solemn tone, akin to that of the martinfierrista avant-garde. Likewise, through the editorial voice, the journal builds a readership that participates in its program, forming a reading community that presupposes the adoption of an alternative, popular, and anti-authoritarian critical stance.
