Sediment characteristics and their spatial and temporal variations in beaches of Necochea Municipality, Buenos Aires province (Argentina) were analized. Sediment samples were collected in foreshore, backshore and foredune. After sieving the samples, statistical parameters and bivariate graphics were obtained. The relation between foreshore slope and statistical parameters was also studied. Beaches are composed in Quequén city by medium to coarse sands and gravels, and in Necochea city by fine sands. An increase in average grain size was registered since the middle century XX. This raise is associated to changes in the sediment sources of the beaches as a consequence of the human occupation of the coastal environment.
