This paper investigates how transgender people appearance in urban public space affects their interactions with other passers-by. By semi-structured interviews, it is established that transgender people must fit their appearance into existing gender standards to circulate through urban public space without suffer other passers-by unfavorable reactions. On the one hand, this is a way gender shapes and regulates urban public space. On the other hand, through requiring appearance fitting into existing gender standards, urban public space genderizes passers-by and thereby holds prevailing gender system.
