This article describes the disputes and transformations in the representations of gender policies in Argentina under the "liberal-libertarian" state management during 2024. The study focuses on a specific case: the state representations around the closure of the Ministry of Women, Genders and Diversities. We work with a qualitative and interpretive methodological approach, with which official documents are analyzed using discourse analysis techniques from a socio-semiotic perspective. The results show that state representations respond to new interpretative frameworks on gender issues, which correspond to the liberal-libertarian “new right” ideology that defends the adjustment of public spending. This is articulated with the conservative perspective of the movements “against gender ideology.” These representations redefine the limits of what can be said, to the detriment of the continuity of gender institutions that were agreed upon and established in recent decades through a long process of construction of an international gender legal order along with the rise of feminist mobilizations. in the Latin American region. The official discourse delegitimizes gender policies since it associates them with inefficiency and the interests of the “political caste.” At the same time, it promotes a vision of "equality before the law" without specific gender distinctions, which minimizes the importance of public investment in gender policies.
