This article employs a bibliometric perspective to analyze scientific communication on datafication. Our corpus consists of 904 documents retrieved from the Scopus database using the criteria "datafication" or "datafied" and limited to articles in journals and in the English language. In dialogue with the systematic review by Flensburg and Lomborg (2023) as the main reference, and addressing four research questions, we explore themes, influential works, communication channels, geographical contributions, and author collaborations. Our analyses suggest the predominance of a critical and deconstructive view of big data, along with a process-product relationship with datafication. The focus developed by the most cited references supports this trend, highlighting the socio-political background of datafication. Geographical analysis reveals a concentration of production in the United States and Europe, underscoring the need to broaden the diversity of voices and contexts to understand datafication as a global process with local variations. In conclusion, this study contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the literature on datafication, providing an update until 2023, emphasizing the relevance of critique in the field, and advocating for the inclusion of diverse perspectives to enrich future research.
