This article analyses Theodor. W. Adorno’s appropriation of Hegelian dialectics, in order to exhibit its potentiality as immanent critique. Although the paper points out both thinkers’ major divergences, the emphasis is placed on the continuity that Adorno assumes between both of them as a means to bring the actuality of dialectical theory into view. The paper is divided into five sections that explain: (1) the complexity of the bicephalous dialectical thought of the subject-object relationship; (2) the possibility of conceiving dialectics as immanent critique through Hegel’s idea of “simply looking on” (das reine Zusehen); (3) the plausibility of knowing something true through the concept of untruth; (4) the determinate negation and the presentation as two essential nerves of dialectical thinking; (5) how Adorno’s negative dialectics show a way to actualize Hegel’s thinking to a specific conjuncture, thus doing justice to his philosophy.
