The purpose of the present work is to analyze the objectives pursued by Friar Servando Teresa de Mier throughout the years in various writings, in his efforts to discover and critically reveal the origins and the reasons for the survival of the Guadalupan tradition, and thereby propose new ways of criollo patriotism. To achieve this goal, this article explores Mier’s proposed readings about the Guadalupan tradition as the path this man of letters followed in order to rethink himself inside a power institutional network which is no longer homogeneous. Mier´s writings suggested cracks that allowed transatlantic intellectual alliances through the opening of both the colo-nial criollo archive (Higgins, 2004) and its criollo epistemology (CañizaresEsguerra, 2007).
