The following study aimed to describe and associate the use of electronic devices and books with the regulation of school-age children and sociodemographic variables. 150 children between 8 and 12 years old (M= 10.14, SD= 2.68, female=75) residents of Argentina were evaluated. An ad-hoc sociodemographic questionnaire and the children's cognitive-emotional regulation questionnaire (CERQ-K) were used. It was found that the cell phone was the most used device on a typical day, followed by the TV and the PC, all of which were used, for the most part, for more than one hour per day. However, most read only an hour or less per week. Direct and indirect associations were found between the use of screens and books with the emotional regulation subdimensions. In turn, cell phone use was inversely related to the educational level of the mother and father, and cell phone use. Finally, the female gender presented higher scores in relation to reading. It is concluded that the exposure and use of electronic media by children and adolescents can have negative consequences on their cognitive and affective development.
