This article studies the libertarian appropriation of Martín Fierro, the famous poem written by José Hernández in the seventies of the nineteenth century. I consider that the use of the text by agents of that ideology did not necessarily reproduce insurgent images of the gaucho. The anarchist representations of the gauchesca had to be integrated into complex contexts, both literary and political, which influenced the possibilities to assign new interpretations to the gaucho Fierro. Therefore, this work extends until the mid-twentieth century, when Argentina was governed by Peronism. Through anarchist publications and the politicalcultural activities organized by institutions and groups, with the documentary collection on libertarian payers plus the analysis of Alberto Ghiraldo's productions, I introduce new reflections on the anarchist uses of Martín Fierro.
