This paper is an ethnographic analysis of agroecological processes in the fruit and vegetable-growing area of La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina). It is carried out through anthropological techniques such as participant observation, open in-depth interviews and life histories of six families that carry out agroecology in two villages of the productive cordon. The objective is to delve deeper into the actors who initiate agroecology within the families, placing between question marks, extended assumptions about the leading and exclusive role of women in agroecology. Three points are developed as results. The first is that in the processes of initiation, deepening and dispersion of agroecology, women are not necessarily the only protagonists, but rather the networks of kinship and paisanaje are the gear on which agroecological experiences are built. These networks sustain the periods of uncertainty and fear involved in carrying out agroecology in this sector. The second point is that all these processes are ensured by women as the ones responsible for the social reproduction of the sector: physical and socio-cultural of the workers, productive of fruits, flowers and vegetables, and generators of the conditions of possibility for the expansion of agroecology. This is because they ensure the time available for training, sharing, experimenting and expanding, actions associated with agroecological practices. Finally, we describe some of the motivations for doing agroecology, linked to the externalities generated by the production model in which they are located: economic, climatic and health-related. The paper concludes by highlighting the importance of a deeper reading of agroecological processes in the productive sector of La Plata in a situated and critically, so that the proposals for their expansion are appropriate to the reality they aim to transform.
