The aim of this study is to question the urban public space of Aracaju's bicycle lane and social segregation as a result of the mismatches caused by neoliberal flows of wealth production and poverty maintenance/reproduction. The article starts from the assumption that Aracaju's bicycle lane is, to a large extent, undemocratic, and therefore cannot be seen as an issue of citizenship. To support this suspicion, some questions are raised: For which social actors was the bicycle lane designed as a public policy? What kind of urban bodily practice was it designed for? What kind of bodies and bicycles was it designed for? In geopolitical terms, what is the function of Aracaju's cycling network? We understand that the uses of cyclists' bodies are different in that they politically and aesthetically use their bicycles for different purposes. Similarly, the processes of transmission and use of these body techniques are structured by class and gender issues. The conclusion is that although it was conceived as a way of building quality of life for the comfortable sectors, the uses of the citizens are far from what was expressed in the design and it materializes the inequalities in terms of social class and gender that the modern city is experiencing.
