The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in 2020 prompted us to develop creativity and expand the cytogenetics classroom with an emerging online pedagogical model. To address the essential content, we develop digital resources and use the virtual microscope, integrated and applied in asynchronous and synchronous instances in a flipped classroom. To overcome learning obstacles in the mechanisms of gamete formation, we elaborated tutorial videos and interactive boards, as a didactic alternative, replacing the blackboard in our teaching practice. All digital tools were consolidated in collaborative environments that facilitated the active construction of knowledge. The success of strategies was reflected in the academic performance and assessment of the students, a reason to capitalize on the experience today and in the future beyond the pandemic.
