Jacobo Fijman's work is usually considered marginal. To better assess it, we first investigate where he emigrated from, what Argentina he arrived in, and how he inserted himself into the intellectual field. We propose Jewishness as a necessary key to illuminating the opacity of his work. Using the semiotics of passions (Greimas and Fontanille), historical and literary contextualizations (nationalism, Jewish literature), and a critique of meaning in the style of Henri Meschonnic, we focus, primarily, on Molino rojo and analyze the following as markers of Jewishness: humor; imagery and Hispanophilia; and Talmudic discussion. With this work, we provide a semiotic shift in Fijmanian studies, in contrast to the much-mentioned lack of intelligibility. Following in the footsteps of Fijman's Jewishness, meaning opens up, his poetics clarifies, and his ubiquitous regions of belonging to Sepharad and Ashkenaz appear.
