Edgar Morin’s work has not elaborated a self-problematization of complex thought in the history of philosophy. The reflective inscription of complex thought in the history of thought is a condition of possibility for its philosophical development as a social, ethical, political, and scientific project. In order to contribute to this reflexivity, we elaborate nine problematizations concerning complex thought, civilization, philosophy, the future, politics, democracy, liberalism, populism and truth. This system of problematization allows us to conceive the complex thought as a theoretical and practical effort to make more complex the exercise of critical reason, which constitutes the organizing nucleus of the project of Enlightenment and the philosophical discourse of modernity. In this way, complex thought motivates a rebirth of a reflective Enlightenment through the exercise of a critical reason open to complexity, uncertainty, and the contradiction of becoming and progress.
