| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | The article analyzes the emergence of COVID-19 and prevention policies in an urban center and the surrounding rural environment (Santo Tomé-Corrientes, Argentina) situated along an international border (São Borja-RG, Brazil). The universe of study was the population living in structural poverty in Santo Tomé, taking into consideration that the scarcity of safe drinking water and sanitation as well as critical overcrowding constraint disease prevention known before vaccines. Ethnographic fieldwork was carried out with subsistence farmers, fishermen, health personnel and representatives of the forestry industry. Maps of the universe of study were developed, including areas of unmet basic needs, forestry, fishery and fresh food production. Prevention and containment measures implemented are described at the local level in 2020-2021 vis a vis with town economy and fresh food supply. The limitations in local provision of fresh foods condition the possibilities of complying with confinement, leading to health care securitization, explaining that index cases were truck drivers or relatives. Local drought, downstream agrochemical pollution of the river, forest fires, fresh food production decline and COVID-19 are analyzed as convergent ecocrises relating commodities production mode with diseases mode of production. | es_ES |
