This article recovers the contributions of a great author of contemporary pedagogy such as Ángel Pérez Gómez, starting from the assumption that singular academic biographies are inscribed in social history. His legacy consists of enabling us to understand the relationship between democratic education and social justice from a brave radical position against any authoritarian discourse of depoliticization. To build a democracy, both in the general society and in a school institution, it is necessary to consider the problems of power. The curriculum, understood as the culture that students and teachers live, reproduce and transform at school, is not a neutral practice and much less instrumental, but rather acquires a political character.
