The tension between national states and ethnic identities is expressed in different ways in current Latin American contexts, and in different regions all around the world. Basically, because of the multiplicity of indigenous populations whose territories have been crossed by national demarcations. Such is the case of the Guarani populations, which inhabit territories of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Each of these national states has expressed differences in their links with the indigenous school issue in the formalization of the proposals. In this work we propose to characterize the Bilingual Intercultural Education destined to Mbyá populations, considering its historical development, implementation and current scope. Methodologically, this text is based on documentary sources and a recent field work research. The aim of this text is to account for the tensions present in this three educational models analyzed, and the possibilities that would grant indigenous education a link between them.
