The article describes the conformation of the practice of Argentine theatrical dance, emphasizing on the correlation with the social world. I inquire into the ideology that sustains this artistic practice throughout its history in Argentina, from its origins until 1955. First Peronism cultural planning challenged the established categories of the so-called “high” and “low” culture. I analyze how the underlying dance ideology was affected by the “culture democratization” state policy of First Peronism, and how the practice of dance is consolidated in this socio-political context.
