This paper analyzes the main policies designed and implemented by the only civilian chancellor of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata between 1976 and 1983, Guillermo Gallo, going briefly over the most important events of the previous years (1973-1976). We also observe the predominance of instability and political violence during the third Peronist administration, and how Gallo’s arrival deepened state repression. Furthermore, we describe the arguments behind shutting down undergraduate programs and behind exclusion policies such as entrance examinations, student quotas and the expulsion of thousands of students. Moreover, we give an account of the events that took place after the 1980 University Law was passed.
