This article reflects on the methodological design developed to address the obstacles that the scarcity of information imposes on the study of China's investments in infrastructure and its effect on land grabbing from an International Political Economy approach. After exposing the main methodological limitations found in studies on this subject, it presents the ontological and epistemological assumptions that, framed within the critical realist perspective, guided the selection of the methodological strategy and data collection techniques. The conclusion highlights the contributions of the study of multiple cases selected through a survey of Chinese investments to other studies.
