This article aims to systematise the historical development of Intercultural Bilingual Education policies in Chaco and Misiones in the light of the deficits expressed in the statistics regarding the schooling data of indigenous children and youth. To this end, we analyse how specific legislation was developed and implemented in two periods: the 1980s-1990s and from 2000 to the present. According to our perspective, the starting point in both provinces has broad coincidences; but then, in the long term, the jurisdictional differences were very striking. Nevertheless, we find that current results are not very encouraging and that there are striking similarities that lead us to raise debates about bilingual and intercultural education proposals.
