The paper wonders about the sense of politics in the thought of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. With this aim, the paper takes two outstanding writings that allow us to understand this search. The analysis of these two writings shows the main core of politics philosophy of Merleau- Ponty beyond the regular periodization of his work. This core condensates a notion of politics as contingency and conflict of Machiavellian roots that critically dialogues with the Marxist tradition. On the other hand, the paper concludes with the hypothesis that Merleau- Ponty’s reflections about politics nourish from a humanist concept subtracted of the Heidegger same issue in the republican saga of the politics humanism.
