In this paper, two problems associated with the use of invariant knowledge to achieve interventionist or policy purposes will be examined. The first of them is ontological, and refers to the difficulty of finding out genuine stable causal factors in economics. In this sense, it will be shown that socio-economic phenomena do not respond to a logic of stable causal factors, but to a logic of “possibility trees”. The other problem is epistemological and refers to the fact that, even if stable social contributions are found out, nothing guarantees that such stability prevails in future.
