This study presents the first umbrella review on the relationship between perfectionism and anxiety. Seven meta-analyses and systematic reviews published between 2016 and 2024 were analyzed to examine the magnitude, consistency, and methodological quality of reported effects. Findings revealed moderate associations between evaluative perfectionism (EvP) and anxiety (r ≈ .35–.40) and weak or null associations between perfectionistic strivings (EP) and anxiety (r ≈ .10–.15), particularly when shared variance was statistically controlled. Only 15–17% of the studies involved clinical samples, with a strong overrepresentation of WEIRD contexts and an almost complete absence of explanatory mechanisms. A moderate overlap was found between reviews (R = 0.32), suggesting partial independence of the evidence base. Overall, current evidence depicts a robust but methodologically uneven picture, dominated by subclinical, Anglo-centric, and correlational research. The review highlights the need for culturally diverse and clinically representative studies that move beyond correlation toward identifying and testing specific psychological mechanisms linking perfectionism and anxiety.
