This work aims to analyze the (self) representations and the forms of narrative construction of identity (s), marked by migratory displacements and, consequently, by conflicts based on the multiple forms of otherness, whether by foreigners or estrangement. These issues are studied in a selection of significant texts from the production of Syria Poletti (Pieve di Cadore, Italia, 1917 ― Buenos Aires, 1991), a Friulian writer who emigrated to Argentina between approximately 1939 and 1946, where she developed all her literary activity. 1 The approach seeks to investigate the complex identity configurations, manifested as a dialectical process and in counterpoint, that decline in time-space relationships in movement and in discursive, explicit or elliptical dialogues. These identity configurations challenge society and the subject, understood "as becoming, as a constant displacement that is knotted in the social bond to always return as another-subject" (Dipaola and Luterau 32, original emphasis), also appealing to the exercise of memory / forgetfulness, according to a rhetoric of memory, as defined by Alberto Giordano (181-182). The reading is supported by the theoretical contributions of comparative literature, the socio-criticism and the hermeneutics of otherness. In this way, it is hoped to reconstruct, in connection with the multifaceted phenomenon of “e (in) migration” 2, a semiotic space of literary reference that accounts for identity conflicts and their possible resolutions.
