This paper, based on group interviews conducted in Florencio Varela during 2024, explores the conceptions that youth in this vulnerable area of Greater Buenos Aires hold regarding democracy, its content, strengths, and outstanding debts. This encompasses both the years of mandatory isolation due to the pandemic and its aftermath (2020-2025). These conceptions are then contrasted with the classic and contemporary definitions provided by academic literature on this concept, in order to highlight the new meanings, imaginaries, promises, and weaknesses that democracy acquires for this group. Finally, a new notion and specific typology of democracy is constructed based on the testimonies collected from Varela youth, with the aim of updating preexisting ones and encompassing new emerging realities. The above is of particular interest, relevance, and validity as it incorporates the ways of understanding and conceiving this political regime or form of government by a central actor for the present and future of our constitutional states, one that is often overlooked.
