Novelist, biographer, essayist, short story writer, and co-founder of Proa magazine; the Tucumano writer Pablo Rojas Paz (1896 – 1956) stood out as a central figure in the cultural field of Argentina. The literary production of Rojas Paz was accompanied by his work as a journalist in the renowned argentinean newspaper, Critica. It was on those pages that the football chronicles he wrote under the pseudonym El Negro de la tribuna became popular. This paper studies for the first time the writings published by El Negro de la tribuna in a compendium of Argentinean football, in order to analyze how the highbrow and popular culture merge in the works of one of the most outstanding intellectuals of the first half of the XX century.
