The aim of this study is to evaluate the contribution to global warming potential of the production of activated carbon obtained from sawmill waste for its application in solar adsorption refrigerators in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, and to determine the potential reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions in relation to activated carbon of mineral origin. The study is addressed from a life cycle approach, considering the recommendations of the ISO 14040 and 14044 standards. The results show that the production of activated carbon from sawdust represents a reduction of the impact of global warming of 5% in relation to activated carbon of mineral origin. This reduction can be 65% if the avoided emissions related to the burning of sawdust, which is frequently carried out in the sawmills analyzed, are taken into account.
