This paper proposes an interpretation of social representations of authority, inspired by Kojeve’s theory. To address this issue, this paper considers the vital experiences of high school students from Mar del Plata, as reflected in language. The linguistic material that integrates these representations belongs to various life realms of adolescents: the family, the school, and the street. These are subjective elements in this evolutionary stage, and they also serve as spaces for constructing dialogical representations. As part of a case study with a multi-stage sample design, a word association test was conducted on 95 high school students from three schools. We conducted an interpretative analysis using Kojeve’s authority categories: Father, Master, Judge, and Chief. The analysis of word associations in the corpus resulted in most of the words being grouped according to the four types of authority, particularly around the categories of Chief-authority, Father-authority, and Judge-authority. Such findings reinforce our hypothesis regarding the conceptual validity of Kojeve’s classification to organize diverse experiences of authority in the family, school, and street settings.
