This paper addresses the notion of poetic belief, starting with an overview of Jerzy Grotowski’s work in his Ritual Arts stage (1986-1999), particularly his influence in Argentinian theatre duting the post-dictatorship period. A comparison of the systematization of his practice on the stage and his research allows us to propose a poetic belief that emerges from a specific way of ‘doing’. By poetic belief I mean a meditation of one’s own artistic practice, which is complemented with the actor’s poetic subjectivity (processes and contexts of production of the artwork). It is from his or her specific perspective that the actor, at some point in the process of approaching the stage material, covers a territory of poetic belief in his/ her own subjectivity.
