Underground water is essential to assure the water supply in the society and the productive activities. Accelerating increase in demand and inadequate resource management have had an impact in the availability and the quality of aquifer water. The sustainable management of these water reserves must be addressed as a priority in order to guarantee the sustainability of the means of water supply for present and future generations. Sustainable management requires an adequate legislative regime, which will define the rules to protect the water resource and establish a framework for long-term planning of its efficient use. The design of the work is comparative and descriptive, the general objective is to identify and review main aspects of the laws of four provinces referring to water management, groundwater in particular, taking into account strengths and weaknesses of the different jurisdictions for the resolution of possible conflicts. The management of water resources that transcend administrative political limits requires considering the Argentine environmental federalism and its implications in order to achieve coordinated management between the distinct jurisdictions and the incorporation of environmental policy tools that contribute to integrated water management.
