The purpose of this article is to develop some basic theoretical propositions to treat the problems of "class" and "social stratification" from a Marxist perspective. To discuss the "Marxist notion of class" has been required to differentiate it from the "sociological notion of class", terminology taken from the open Marxism. The capitalist relationship is objectively contradictory to the extent that it constitutes, simultaneously, the conceptual pairs equality-freedom / inequality-coaction. The capitalist exploitation of the labor force is organizedthrough this contradiction. On this basis the class antagonism develops as an objective social relationship, opposing people as "specimens" of class. The "sociological class" is a result of the distribution and classification of individuals according to significant attributes. But the significance of these attributes is objectively based on their ability to grasp how the capital / labor contradiction determines the odds of typical life for different groups of individuals.
