In this essay we offer a reflection centered on the book by Soledad Catoggio entitled Los desaparecidos de la Iglesia and on its contribution to the construction of specific knowledge about the Catholic Church and particularly about its role during the last military dictatorship [1976-1983]. The book, in a long reach approach, explores the trajectories of the non-conformist sectors of the clergy affected by repression, analyzes the common spaces of formation and socialization, their views of the relations of power in the Church, the process of constitution of the figure of the subversive, and the strategies displayed in the '70s to confront the State terrorism. lt also analyzes the process of redefinition of the past in the democratic context and its influence in the emergence of different memories in the public space. In short, questioning settled interpretations and common places, the book provides a more complex perspective on the Church and its members in recent history.
