The use of overlays of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) appears as an alternative for the repair and reinforcement of pavements. The fibers make a sewing action over the construction joints and eventual cracks and, as a consequence, allow reducing the thickness of the repair and increase service life and the general performance of the pavements. The design and behaviour of thin concrete overlays is related to the bond level developed between the substrate and the overlay; in this sense the presence of fibers also reduces the propagation of cracks through the substrate-overlay interface. This work shows some experiences oriented to the development of a method for assessing the efficiency of different types of fibers in this kind of applications. With this aim, the mechanical response of substrate-overlay compound specimens subjected to flexure test is analysed. It includes overlays of simple concrete, of FRC with steel and synthetic macrofibers applied over asphalt as substrate. Additionally, the bond strength in the interface was studied by shear tests.
