In Bahía Blanca, in late 1973, the Popular Theater Company "Eva Perón" staged the “Cantata Santa María de Iquique”. It was at the moment, one of the most conspicuous performances of theater as political praxis in the city. Staged in the sumptuous City Hall Theater and performed by activist of the Peronist Party along with the neighbours from Villa Miramar (one of the poorest neighbourhood of the city), it became a significant event in the artistic and political scene of late in 1973. This paper explore the political and aesthetic articulation between the theater company and the activist peronist group in Villa Miramar. It places the experience within the context of increasing political radicalization, as well as strong questioning to traditional theater performances.
