The present work addresses the analysis of residential segregation in a mid-size city in expansion. Based on a mixed methodological strategy, a correlation is made between the forms acquired by the residential expansion of Puerto Madryn, a city of great demographic and urban relative growth in the East of Central Patagonia, and a cartography of inequality in the last three national censuses. We make explicit that inequalities arising from maps are expressions of processes of access to land and housing that are lived in the city and should not be fetishized as if they explained urban inequality. The policies and practices of the expansion are the main mechanisms by which the unequal distribution of the population can be explained. Comparing the cartography of this practices with the cartography of three different censuses allows us to have a dynamic approach to the phenomenon of the residential segregation in an intermediate city of the Argentinean Patagonia.
