This article, guided by the interest of advancing in a comparative analysis of the meanings, uses and implications of genetics in the field of assisted human reproduction techniques and in the context of genetic ancestry tests, aims to describe and contrast two research projects developed in the city of Buenos Aires. The analysis is guided by an ethnographic approach, takes up the contributions of kinship studies in anthropology and starts from the distinction between the model of bilateral European kinship based on blood and the model of genetics. In this way, it explores what attributes, from the perspectives of the users of these biotechnologies, certain substances such as blood, genes, ovules and semen have the ability to transmit and what implications they have in the formation of kinship relationships.
