The coastal area of the Argentine Sea, just as those of other regions of the planet, is affected by different environmental processes; this modifies its vulnerability and places part of the human infrastructure that it contains under crisis. The main processes involved are: a) changes in sea level; b) changes in seawater temperature; c) changes in salinity; d) modifications in the carbonate-bicarbonate buffer (CO3 =-HCO2 -) performance; e) changes in nutrient balance; and f ) modification of storm patterns, both in frequency and intensity. This chapter presents a synoptic analysis of the current situation of the coastal area of the Argentine Sea, as well as the projection of the scenarios that may possibly develop in the future as the result of progressive modifications.
