The provincial origin of ministers is in Argentina a dimension barely addressed by the growing agenda of studies on ministerial cabinets. Since its inception, this federal republic has evidenced marked interprovincial disparities in population and resources. This disproportion supposes the primacy of a metropolitan center located between the City and the province of Buenos Aires, which has been the predominant place of origin of the ruling elite. This article aims to reduce such a deficit, analyzing the composition of all cabinets (both, democratic and dictatorial governments) based on the territorial origin of the ministers. Based on its own and unpublished database, which records all ministerial appointments between 1852 and 2019, it is shown that the historical composition of the cabinets accounts for a majority of ministers coming from that center. Finally, we incorporate the notion of regional representation, useful for studying federations or decentralized countries.
